Some owner-occupied, single-family residences may be eligible for up to $25,000 apiece for improvements.
Income, tax delinquency and location are factors that will determine who is eligible for the money. In general, it is aimed at improvements to a target area of North Tonawanda bounded by Wheatfield Street to Sweeney Street and River Road to Twin Cities Memorial Highway.
Applications for the money are available at the community development office located in the Department of Motor Vehicles building, 500 Wheatfield St.
For a single occupant, the maximum income to apply is $21,300 per year. In general, that figure increases by about $3,000 in annual salary allowed as each additional occupant is factored in.
The grant is through the New York state Division of Housing and Community Renewal. Homeowners may use the funds to make “essential” repairs such as to roofs, plumbing, heating, electrical, windows and energy efficiency.
