Can individuals apply for grants?
Most grants are given to 501(c)(3) organizations because those are tax deductible for the contributor. Additionally, private foundations are prohibited from making grants to individuals, therefore it is generally recommended that interested individuals partner with a nonprofit organization to work toward common objectives and grant seeking. However, there are grants and awards available to individuals (artists and teachers especially!) from other sources and they are included in the Grant Gopher service.
How do I apply for a grant?
Once you have identified a grant that is a good match, click on the live link we provide to you - this will take you directly to the grantor's funding guidelines and application. Read the guidelines carefully (several times)! Once you decide to proceed with the application, be sure to follow all the directions set forth by the grantor.
What is the difference between "Total Program Funding" and "Maximum Grant Amount"?
Total Program Funding is the full amount set aside by the grantor. This amount may be broken up into different individual grant amounts. If our information lists the Total Program Funding, and no information for the Maximum Grant Amount, it is because we were only informed of the total funding available and no individual breakdown was provided.
Maximum Grant Amount is the largest amount a grantor has specified they will give for an individual grant. We provide this information to you whenever it is available.
Can I get a grant to start my small business?
After lots of digging, Grant Gopher still has not found any true grants for the costs involved with starting a small business. The Small Business Administration offers favorable loans for this purpose. For assistance with starting a small business, try researching local economic development associations. It is their mission to provide services in this area. There are grants available for businesses already in operation, generally to assist them in developing a certain type of product or service. These are included in the Grant Gopher service.
May I share a grant opportunity with another person or organization?
Of course! Our service is free and we would like you to share it with anyone who might benefit.
What about all those books and CDs I see advertised? They claim that people can get grants for rent, medical care, bills - anything?!?
Honestly, those books and CDs are basically rewrites from the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. First of all, CFDA is free to the public. Second, if you look through the catalog, you will see that the eligible applicants are either nonprofit organizations or government entities. Those entities then distribute funds through their own programs to individuals.
There is grant and financial assistance for individuals and it is generally found through special state and local government programs, not in the "information" these infomercial books and CDs are selling. Grant Gopher includes these programs in our database.
How often does Grant Gopher update its information and add new grants?
Our dedicated team updates everything daily. Expired grant opportunities are removed, rolling announcement deadlines are updated, and several new grant programs are added. We are committed to providing the most current data possible!
Help! I'm not receiving my weekly e-mails. What happened?
Please log in to your account and double-check your e-mail address. We see so many "undeliverable" e-mail addresses and we have no way to notify those people!
Other problems may be:
Your e-mail filter is sending them to your 'spam box'
Your company server is blocking our e-mails
In both of those cases, be sure to add grant@grantgopher.com to your list of approved e-mail addresses! We don't want you to miss out on any important notices!
